Another educator mentioned to me that we should refrain from using ‘not’ in the way
We construct, test questions and instructions unless the importance of such is diminished
if otherwise stated. In character change, here are some that seem to be stated better with
the word ‘not’ in each statement:
1. Know that change is not impossible.
Yan ang good news! If you are thinking that change is elusive, nagkakamali ka.
Change can happen. Many lives have been changed. You would be unfair to yourself
if you believe that it cannot happen to you. Character change is possible. Changing your
attitude is possible. You can change your behavior!
2. Know that genuine change may not happen overnight.
My kids enjoy observing our love birds lay their eggs and how these eggs hatch and develop
into beautiful love birds. They discovered that it takes 21 days for a bird egg to hatch. Within
that time span, many changes happen inside the egg as it develops. My daughter finds that
its 21 days long but it is worth the wait. For our love birds, shorter or longer than 21 days can
spell abnormality. If nature works this way, why be hard on yourself?
Change can happen…over time. Patience and constancy is key. Marapat na panay-panayin
nang may pagpapagal ang nais nating mabago sa atin.
3. Know that you are not God. Therefore, depend on His ability to change you.
Change may not happen overnight but it sure can happen as you yield to God over time.
This is through a daily commitment and a moment by moment yielding to God, choosing to
surrender to Him the attitudes and behaviors that may be self-gratifying but actually are
displeasing to Him. It is in yielding that makes change very possible.
When I am tempted to get grumpy (mainit ang ulo), I pray, “Lord, I surrender my grumpiness
to you. I know that displeases You. I know it’s wrong. Help me overcome it today. I choose
gentleness. I choose kindness. Thank you because You can change me.”
The God of the Bible loves us so much He takes us “as is, where is” with all those imperfections
and character flaws. But He loves us even more He wants us changed, not by our own strength,
but by His power. Yield and surrender to Him moment by moment. Allow Him to work that
change in you.
Makapangyarihan ang Dakilang Lumikha, kaya Niya tayong baguhin…yan ay kung isusuko
natin ang ating mga sarili sa Kanya at pahihintulutan Siyang baguhin tayo. Siya nawa!
