Jumpstart with Meaning: A Review of United Neon’s Kick-Off and Business Conference
New Year is spelled with a lot of excitement, hope, and opportunities. It is also a purveyor to learning and experience that we either let fate take its natural course or add our own brand of fun and meaning. Each year, we try to make resolutions or go averse to it and just do what we ought to do. Ultimately, all we want is to make our year fantastic and fruitful.
For us, here in United Neon, the first quarter trumpets with so much joy and delight. As part of an annual tradition and practice, we kick-off the year by setting our business direction and strategy through a review of the past year’s performance and a look at how we can all paddle towards the same direction.
2016 goal-setting as part of the annual planning activities
Activities vary year on year depending on the emanating need of the people in the organization. The call is always to rally, impart, and make the members of the organization value their contributions in the company.
This year, we have a unique pre-conference activity. It is something that may be a little off tangent to a usual corporate practice. Peculiar to this year is our common experience of having to deal with the word, “purpose”. Purpose is the building block of everything we do with our lives, whether with our careers or personal relationships. And the purpose that should guide us back to our path if we ever lose track of it, for a time.
What better way to begin the year than discovering, exploring, refining or renewing our purposes and passions in life! This ‘purpose” is what makes a lot of people run around in circles, sometimes chasing one’s tail until we choke up and give up. Purpose is very important to allow us to align all there was, there is, and there will be. For most of us, it was not an easy task to craft one’s purpose statement. It was helpful for most. It definitely makes us take a deeper and closer look at our selves. Purpose holds a lot of weight and is not just a part of one’s life. Purpose, is in fact, greater than the sum of the parts of one’s life.
United Neon’s Sales Team performing this year’s battle cry – Stand up, Stand out, Synergize!
On February 1, right after our Devotion at the UN Ground Hall, we kicked-off 2016 with the theme, “Making Lives Meaningful.” With a unified battle cry, “stand up, stand out, synergize”, the way was paved and set the enthusiasm of the people.
BBL welcomes employees on Day 1 of the Kick-Off & Business Conference
DCL addressing everyone on his Keynote speech
Our Chief Equipping Officer (CEO), Mr. Danny Lim, opened the 3-day Business Conference. It was a great story of adventure in Botswana and how we can learn from nature and animals. The challenge posed to us was to be like the King of the Jungle.
On the first day, the heads of the sister companies presented their accomplishments and goals for 2016 including Merwin Pingul of Emporia, Rod Gabriel of HeartShaper Asia, Junjun Fetizanan of MarketBoost, Boris Joaquin, Breakthrough Leadership Management Consultancy, Inc., Ella Publico of Salt and Light Ventures, Inc and, Great Mabuti on the efforts of our Marketplace Ministry.
The Purpose Statement Gallery is displayed in the UN Ground Hall for the entire February
The Purpose Statement Gallery, a collection of purpose statements along with everyone’s photos, is acclaimed by everyone for the inspiration and encouragement it has given and has caught not only our eyes but mostly our hearts. It is heartening to take note of the various personalities and aspirations of the people of United Neon. This serves as a reminder for each of us to fuel each other’s passions, assist in achieving the purpose of one another and, be a part of living out a colleagues’ purpose. One thing is certain from reading the purpose statements, majority aims to better their own selves, provide for their family, and positively influence the world through the work that we do and relying the work of our hands in God’s grace.
It does not come as a surprise as we are molded to thrive under the culture of committing to create a positive impact for the Glory of God. As Albert Santos puts it in his statement, he aims “not to be served, but to serve.”

Write. Pose. Click. Post.
Another activity was the Statement Photo Booth. A statement board is provided where anyone can write their ways of making each life meaningful. Some even expressed their gratitude with their personalized statements.
It was a fun and inspiring Kick-Off. Sir Danny leaves us with an important message that there are no second class citizens in any organization.
The company tagline, Making Lives Meaningful, launched to United Neon and its sister companies
During the second day of the Business Conference on February 9, we are introduced with the company’s new strategic direction of achieving success and excellence while keeping connected with meaning, relationships, enthusiasm, and humility. “I can be as great as I can be,” the AVP states. We all can. Our new direction tackles the weight of purpose as the foundation in our quest to making a positive impact to the world. Click here for the full video
The second day was opened by our Corporate Planning and Marketing Director, Ms. Alpha Allanigui. Her talk synthesized the story shared by our CEO and the business landscape both here and abroad. It was also a springboard for all of us to actualize our business direction. The Leadership Team composed of our CFO, Ms. Menchie Catuday, Head of Sales, Mr. Mike Mendoza, HR Manager, Mr. Dhon Reyes, Business Development Manager, Mr. Richard Tee reporting for Operations and UTASI Operations Manager, Mr. Phil Chua, each reported on their department plans to help achieve our company’s business goal.

Fulfilling Our Purposes in 2020 or a time capsule ceremony culminates the second day of the conference. Prepared beforehand is each employee’s Personal Planning Output (PPO) which expresses one’s current and desired state in a span of four years. As part of the ceremony, each PPO is passed around the team for each one to read. As a family and company, the sharing was meant to affirm and motivate the team members of their purpose. With Sir Great’s lead, we bowed our heads in prayer for guidance and fulfillment of these goals.
Sealed with a prayer, each United Neon department and sister company gets one time capsule that is set to be opened in 2020.
